I was saddened the other day to hear about the death of Harry Wendelstedt, the former Major League umpire. He was gracious enough to let me come down to his umpire school in Florida 24 years ago to do a report for TBS. He and his staff humored me as I strapped on the gear and became an ump for a day, albeit a terrible one. The piece was so well received that it won a Georgia Area Emmy Award.
